Once upon a time–what really happened?

How the universe came about is now a bigger debate than the universe itself! It is as if society itself is divided into two groups – those who believe in god’s creation of the universe and those who think of it as an evolutionary process. As impossible as taking any one side seems, I certainly am inclined to hear out both cases and give them a thought.
The argument offered by the scientists has always been that evolution is what lies behind the universe. Unfolding the mysteries of how we all came into being, the rational minds such as the supporters of Charles Darwin have always maintained that Natural Selection and the due credit must go to evolution of species over time. This said, they do not in any which way undermine the presence of God. This can be likened to medicine which is purely scientific and offers no supernatural explanations but doesn’t promote atheism. I believe that those who advance the theory of evolution state a mere methodology and these facts are what have no place for religious, supernatural or spiritual beliefs. It is not that they otherwise discount the existence of God.
In total contrast to these evolutionary theories, those who regard creationism and the concept of ‘intelligent design’ give credit to God and supernatural phenomena for the creation of the universe. The famous ‘Watchmaker’s Analogy’ given by William Paley is noteworthy and does tip the scales towards the creationists. The brilliant analogy compares the way intricate parts of a watch come together to make it function as one coherent unit, the universe does too. Also, just as behind this masterpiece there is a watchmaker who created this ‘intelligent design’, there is some supreme Maker who designed the universe as well.
The debate is still ongoing because neither group can fully support their theory nor totally negate the other. Whether the universe came into being from sheer nothingness or it was intended by a Creator to be as it is, we can never know. The only comfort in taking sides is that we wish to know our origins, just as knowing our parents makes us sure of who we really are.
By the way, it’s my sister’s graduation coming up, and she has just told me what she wanted as a token from my travels. So now I need to sort out where to pick up a blue beach bag in Istanbul, any guidance is welcome
