Environmentally Friendly Travel - Let's Start With Your Hotel

Many people are conscious about our environment and saving energy and traveling should not stop them from living their green lifestyles. You might have to do a little bit more of research to find “green”places to travel to with accommodations and transportation to fit, but it is well worth it. Hotels are one such thing you will have to research. There are many hotels that are now focusing on being environmentally friendly with daily habits of recycling, reducing and reusing.

For instance, some hotels are now encouraging their guests to reuse their towels rather than requesting new ones after each use. This saves on the use of water and electricity to launder them. Also, hotels are now offering bins for recycling plastic, aluminum, glass and paper. Many hotels go so far as to offer recycling bags in your room to recycle with.

Hotels are finding that by going green, they actually encourage up to 70% of their customers to do the same during their visit by recycling their stuff and taking measures to save on water and energy such as reducing laundry visits and shutting off lights.

Other things that some hotels such as Looe Hotel are implementing are special lights that switch off when the room is empty and turn back on when the person enters the room through their keycard. Some hotels have water saving devices which actually save water such as water-restricting shower heads and toilet tank fill diverters. These types of devices are not noticed by guests but do a great deal for cutting costs and making a big impact on the environment.

Some hotels leave out comment cards where customers can fill out suggestions for the hotel to implement different ways to go green. It is through the suggestions of customers that many hotels get their green ideas.
